Are my sessions with you completely confidential?
Protecting your confidentiality is of the utmost importance. Everything you share in our session is private; however, it is not always confidential. I may need to share information if someone is at risk of serious harm to themselves or others, a child or dependent adult is at risk of abuse or harm, or the Court subpoenas my therapy notes. These are extreme cases, and you would be involved in the process. I will only share information to the extent reasonably necessary. I need your written consent to release any information outside legal requirements. For example, I will not share information with your insurance company or employer without your explicit consent, specifying what information can be shared. I will review this with you in our first session.
What will you do if we happen to meet in public?
I will do nothing. If you say ‘hi’ to me, I will politely and respectfully say ‘hello’ back, but I will not talk about how or why we know each other. I like to keep professional boundaries with clients. Blurring professional and personal boundaries is confusing and can disrupt the therapeutic process.
What if you and I hold very different beliefs regarding religion or politics?
I like hearing ideas that differ from mine. I will be curious, non-judgmental, and ask questions to learn more. I believe everyone has the right to live free from harm and discrimination, regardless of culture, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or ability. If I cannot remain objective, I will refer you to a more suitable psychologist.
Is the first session really free?
YES! I offer a 45-minute no-cost consultation session, no strings attached. However, if you cancel late or are a no-show for the consultation appointment, please email us before re-booking.
What is your pricing, and how long are sessions?
Great question! I want to be completely transparent. The JaneApp booking system schedules sessions for 60 minutes, but our time together is 50 minutes. Some EMDR sessions (when we are reprocessing a memory using bilateral stimulation) are 90 minutes, but our time together is 80 minutes.
My rate is $240.00 for a 60-minute session. The 90-minute EMDR sessions are $360.00.
Will my benefits cover your services?
If you have benefits that cover psychological services in Alberta, then there is a high chance that your benefits plan will cover some or all of my services. Please check your benefits plan to see if a Registered Provisional Psychologist is covered and the parameters.
In the future, I hope to set up direct billing with the insurance companies that offer these services, but currently, I do not provide direct billing.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require 48 hours’ notice to cancel an appointment. You will be charged the full price for a late cancellation or a no-show appointment. You have 24-hour access to manage all your bookings through your JaneApp account. You will receive appointment reminders through the booking system, and I will personally email you.
Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?
I offer both in-person and virtual sessions. You can pick which works best for you when booking. You can switch an in-person appointment to virtual within 6 hours of your scheduled appointment.
What professional standards and ethics do you follow?
The Canadian Psychological Association Code of Ethics can be found here.
The College of Alberta Psychologist Standards of Practice can be found here.
Also, I am under the supervision of Meg Hasek-Watt (She/Her), R. Psych.
